Our School Day
Monday - Thursday = 8:40am - 3:30pm
Friday = 8:40am - 1:30pm
Break Times for children in Year One are:
- Morning Break = 10:20 - 10:35am
- Lunch Break = 12:00 - 1:00pm
- Afternoon Break = 2:10 - 2:20pm
Our Curriculum
Children in Year One will be welcomed with a variety of subjects taught through play. This focus allows for children to learn the national curriculum through play and communication. Children will need to be in daily to continue their push of phonics for the end of year Phonics Screening Test. Please view our curriculum by viewing the attached documents. Our learning foci will change termly and will be working with a thematic approach in all areas of the curriculum. Below is a list of the themes for the year:

PE
PE will be taught on Monday's and Wednesday's throughout the year from both teaching staff and external coaches. Please ensure your child has their full PE Kit in school every first day of term and it will be taken home every holiday for a clean.
PE Kit must include:
- Plain white t-shirt
- Plain black shorts or leggings which are above the knee (In Winter children can wear black tracksuit bottoms).
- Trainers or Pumps
Reading and Phonics
Children will be read with daily by the Y1 teaching staff and their reading books get changed every Monday. Please ensure you sign their reading records daily and read for a minimum of 10minutes per day with your child.
The Phonics Screening Check 2026 will be Monday 8th June 2026 - Friday 12th June 2026.
It is vital your child attends school everyday to improve their phonetic knowledge to help them succeed in the Phonics Screening Check. Any advice or support you need can be asked to one of the class teachers at any time.
Homework and Spellings
Children will be given homework every Thursday which will include a piece of Numeracy and Literacy which is linked to their learning that week in both subjects. Children are encouraged to complete this independently or with little guidance. Homework is expected to be returned completed the following Monday. Spellings are sent out weekly and also in their spelling booklet with a test being on the following Friday.
