Reading
Reading practise in recpetion is very important! Regular practise home is essential in order for children to make progress. Confidence in reading will support progress in writing.
We send home a library book, this is to develop reading for pleasure, it is for an adult or older sibling to read to the child, you can talk about the story, ask questions about the characters, etc.

We also send home a reading book, this is for the child to read to an adult or older sibling.
This could be a book without words, to practise pre-reading skills. Ask your child to retell the story using the pictures. Ask them questions about the characters, setting and what is going on in the story.

They may have a sound blending book, this is to practise the skill of segmenting and blending soundsto hear a word.

Once the children are cofident blenders they will get a book with simple sentences. Support your child in sepgmenting and blending and identifying tricky words.

Please can you read with your child for at least 5 minutes a day and write in their reading diary weekly.
Record each read with your child in the reading record.
