Literacy
This term, we are focusing on recount writing in Literacy. Children will learn how to retell their own experiences in order, using time words such as first, next, then, and finally. They will practise writing in the past tense, adding description with adjectives and adverbs, and using their senses to bring events to life.
To support their writing, children will go on exciting trips to Forest school and Mayfield Park, giving them real-life experiences to write about.
Our main class book will be “Voices in the Park” by Anthony Browne, alongside other high-quality stories such as “Owl Moon” by Jane Yolen, “Fireflies!” by Julie Brinckloe, and “A Chair for My Mother” by Vera B. Williams.
Reading is a big focus for us this year. Each day, we will enjoy Class Reads at the end of the school day, sharing books by a wide variety of authors to inspire a love of reading.
